Normally you can only request the IND to extend the residence permit as from 3 months before the expiry of a residence permit. Nevertheless, lawyer Mr. Flip Jansen successfully argued with the IND to accept the extension of a residence permit, even though the application was submitted more than six months before the expiry of the current residence permit. The reason was that the client wants to naturalize as a Dutch citizen in the short term and must then have a residence permit that is valid for more than one year. With that argument, the IND ultimately agreed to extend the residence permit earlier than is normally customary.
